About Ray Spivey
Ray Spivey is a graduate of the University of Texas at Austin and a self-taught artist, who began painting in 1994. His early work was displayed at the Ballpark at Arlington and Legends Sports in Austin. Jim Kelly, former all-pro quarterback for the Buffalo Bills and Chris Berman of ESPN own some of his work from that time period. In 1995, he produced a painting for the film Waiting for Guffman. Since then, Ray has been the unofficial Texas Capitol artist, producing the end of session lithograph for each meeting of the Texas Legislature. He also painted the lithograph used as a fundraiser for the Texas Peace Officers’ Memorial. In 2006, he produced Championship in Burnt Orange, a twelve-painting exhibit to commemorate the Texas Longhorns National Championship victory over USC. His recent works included the lithograph for the 2009 Texas Black Tie and Boots Inaugural Ball and two original works for the Altius Investments London Charity Event. Ray is a member of the Portrait Society of America. In his other life, he is the director of governmental relations for the Teacher Retirement System of Texas and is married to his best friend Scarlett Spivey, also a Texas alumnus.
